PAYPAL – AMEX- CANADA – GRRR!!!!!$@#@$$~!!!!!!

Universe, I need your help! Here’s my situation:

  • I’m in Canada
  • My customers want to pay with Amex cards
  • Paypal seems to have it in for me

In Canada, when you try pay a merchant holding a “Paypal Website Payments Pro” account…they can only accept Visa and Mastercard. This is so frustrating.

What makes it worse? I went to Paypal for support, here’s what I get…

Paypal support...looks great!

Ok…lets just click one of those links…

what the?

ALL THE LINKS DO THIS! At least call the product “Website Payments fail” so i don’t get all excited next time.

Has anyone in the world managed to solve this problem?

Yep, Paypal Website Payments Pro in Canada does not accept American Express Cards (but Website Payments Standard does). If you look at the cards accepted on the main Website Payments Pro page, only the Visa and Mastercard logos are displayed.

Unfortunately payments standard is just not a sufficient solution for what we were doing at the time. We ended up moving over to Stripe.com

    Hey,

I just came across your post and I know it has been a while. I just want to say that I get these errors all the time too on paypal, and I’ve narrowed it down to the fact that I play and switch alot between the sandbox and the real paypal. It seems some cookies are shared but incompatible between the two. You can either clear all your paypal cookies or simply use private/incognito mode in your browser.
